Когда ей было два года, попала с родителями в аварию. Отец получил сильное ранение и медленно умирал на глазах своей жены. Мать и девочку спасли только через 6 часов. После этого мать стала очень хрупкой и слабой, и Синон решила защищать её. Во время нападения на почтовое отделение она, движимая этим желанием, застрелила грабителя из его собственного оружия, что вызвало боязнь оружия. Это происшествие привело к тому, что над ней издевались в школе родного города. Обучение в старшей школе начала уже в Токио, где поселилась одна в съёмной квартире. Заняла выгодную позицию и в течение нескольких часов била того из снайперской винтовки по уязвимому месту — маленькому глазу на лбу. После этого и выпала её снайперская винтовка «Геката II», в которую она буквально «влюбилась».

Личность[]

Спокойная и невозмутимая — вот два слова описывающих её. В бою она всегда сдержана и хладнокровна, что заставляет других игроков восхищаться ею. К игре относится со всей серьёзностью. Но при этом она очень буйная, и это проявляется в её конфликте с Кирито. Тем не менее она дружелюбна и не прочь помогать людям, несмотря на то, что с ней трудно общаться. По словам Кирито, в ней заключена огромная сила воли, выходящая за рамки виртуальной игры. Даже на пороге неминуемого поражения, она не сдаётся и будет сражаться до самого конца, не желая жить в постоянном страхе.

Сино в реальной жизни полная противоположность Синон в игре. Она тихая и застенчивая, отчасти из-за пережитого случая в детстве. Большую часть своего свободного времени читает книги в библиотеке. Была снайпером в отряде плеер-киллеров во главе с Дином. В ожесточённом бою ей пришлось встретиться с игроком Бегемотом, использующим миниган. Единственная выжившая, после победы над ним вернулась в город, где встретила Кирито и, приняв его за девушку, помогла найти оружие. Чтобы не опоздать на турнир Золотой пули, вместе с парнем прокатилась на арендованном багги.

Вскоре узнала, что Кирито — парень, обиделась за обман и заявила, что он должен дойти до финала. Пронаблюдав за его сражениями, так и не смогла четко определить свое отношение к нему.

В финале заняла выгодную позицию для стрельбы, но при виде сдающегося Кирито не смогла его убить. Сильное волнение, противоречивые чувства и мысли не позволили ей сосредоточиться и выстрелить точно. Позже Кирито предложил ей дуэль, на что она согласилась. В результате он разрезал её пулю своим Световым мечом, после чего Синон сдалась.

За 3,5 часа до начала финала Золотой пули Сино встречается со своим другом Кёдзи и жалуется ему на то, как сильно Кирито её раздражает. Ей удаётся убить вмешавшегося в бой Ямикадзе и вывести Кирито из проигрышного положения, заставив Дес Гана насторожиться из-за её прицеливания. Благодаря её поддержке Кирито удаётся победить противника и остаться в живых.

Оставшись вдвоём, пара вновь воссоединяется и обмениваются своими настоящими именами. Кирито в последний раз советует Синон быть осторожной после того, как завершится турнир и она выйдет из игры. На вопрос Кирито, как им окончить турнир, Синон активирует плазменную гранату и подрывают себя. В результате оба игрока становятся победителями 3 турнира Золотой пули.

Очнувшись после игры, Сино осторожно осматривает свою квартиру, но никого не обнаруживает. Но как оказалось, недалеко от дома находился её друг Кёдзи, который ждал момента для того, чтобы поздравить её с победой в турнире. Очень быстро добрая беседа друзей перерастает в борьбу за выживание. Кёдзи оказывается соучастником Дес Гана и пытается убить Сино. Спустя какое-то время она вместе с Кадзуто встречается с Кикуокой Сэйдзиро, где они обсуждают итоги расследования МВД по делу братьев Синкава. Как оказалось, ещё одним соучастником в преступлениях был Канэмото Ацуши, однако он скрылся в неизвестном направлении и был объявлен в розыск.

Выслушав все детали расследования, парочка приезжает в Dicey Café, где их дожидались Асуна, Рика и Гилберт Миллз. Киригая не смог утаить от своих друзей историю из прошлого Сино, потому они решили помочь ей, устроив встречу с одним человеком. Им оказывается женщина, которая работала в почтовом отделении в день ограбления и была заложником грабителя. Через несколько недель после инцидента с Дес Ганом Сино соглашается присоединиться к компании в Alfheim Online. Она создает новую учетную запись и выбирает расу Кайт Ши. Высокие навыки в стрельбе дали ей возможность умело использовать лук. Две недели спустя всем игрокам ALO стало известно местонахождение легендарного меча Экскалибура, в результате чего начинается гонка за обладание мечом. Синон соглашается идти за Экскалибуром вместе со всеми.

Группа добирается до Ётунхейма, приступает к поиску меча и вскоре находит подземелье, охраняемое гигантами. Бой получается не из простых, но игрокам удаётся победить всех противников и заполучить желаемый приз. Меч достаётся Кирито, но он, когда группа попадает в сложную ситуацию, решает бросить его из-за возникшей перегрузки, однако Синон решает иначе. Благодаря навыку «возвратная стрела» она возвращает меч и отдаёт Кирито с условием, чтобы он вспоминал о ней, когда держит его.

Примерно 180 дней спустя, после случая с Дес Ганом, виновный в убийствах Кёдзи Синкава, понемногу, стал давать показания полицейским. Поняв причину его действий, Сино собиралась ещё немного подождать и навестить его когда он придёт в норму.

По прошествии 6-и месяцев Сино приспособилась к жизни обычной школьницы, завела много друзей в школе и стала приятно проводить время с компанией Кадзуто. Девушка почти полностью восстановилась от своей психической травмы и уже не боится смотреть на оружие из реального мира, хотя при первом взгляде на подобное её всё равно пробирает небольшая дрожь.

В один обычный день она встретилась в кафе Dicey Café с Кадзуто и приятно проводила время общаясь по душам. Сино предлагает Кадзуто вновь вернуться в GGO и принять участие в грядущем 5-ом чемпионате Золотой пули. В добавление к этому она рассказывает ему о легендарном игроке из Америки, который вновь одержал победу в турнире, полагаясь лишь на свой нож и оружие своих противников.

Помимо него самого, она также отправляет письмо Асуне с тем же предложением. Немногим позже, в кафе заходит и сама Асуна и они решают сменить тему разговора детально расспросив Кирито о его подработке. Парень в самых общих чертах объясняет устройство новой технологии «погружения» которая разрабатывает компания RATH, после чего они прощаются и расходятся.

Ход Алисизации[]

Случившееся нападение на Киригаю и его неожиданный перевод в неизвестную больницу заставляет его подруг собраться вместе и начать его поиски. Собравшись в Сильвиане, в доме Лифы, она вместе со всеми пытается найти зацепки ведущие к Киригае. По недостоверной информации, его забрали в Госпиталь при национальном медицинском университете обороны в Токорозава, в отделение нейрохирургии. Но подругам удаётся найти настоящее место в котором находится Киригая.

Взрыв Алисизации[]

Неделю спустя, после тех самых поисков, неожиданно ночью, ей звони́т Юи и умоляет помочь её «родителям», которые находились в опасности. Добравшись до Ропонги, — местного филиала RATH, вместе с Сугухой она связывается с начальником Токийского порта и просит его передать Кикуоке Сэйдзиро послание, относительно состояния Underworld’а. Получив пропуск на объект они заходят внутрь здания.

Shino Asada (朝田 詩乃, Asada Shino) is a fictional character who appears in the Sword Art Online series of light novels and anime by Reki Kawahara. She is more commonly known by her avatar name, Sinon (シノン, Shinon), her player name in the Gun Gale Online and Alfheim Online video games that the series is set in. She makes her series debut in the fifth light novel volume, titled Phantom Bullet, and the second season of the Sword Art Online anime, voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro in Japanese[1] and Michelle Ruff in the English dub.[2]

When she was eleven years old, Shino was involved in a post office robbery, where she killed the armed robber to defend her mother. As a result, she began to develop a fear of guns, deciding to play Gun Gale Online in hopes it would mend her trauma. The character has achieved popularity in anime and manga fandom, often appearing in fan polls and official merchandise, and has received positive critical reception, with acclaim directed at her appearance and depth of character.

Creation and conception[edit]

In an interview with series creator Reki Kawahara, the author noted that the female characters in Sword Art Online were not based on anyone he knew personally, with him stating «I don’t usually make a character, setting, or anything before I start writing. As I write the story, the girls become what they are now. So, somehow, I don’t know exactly, but somehow, my subliminal idea or some hidden emotion creates the characters to be strong and capable.»[3]

In real life, Shino wears glasses containing an NXT polymer which could withstand a bullet; although they are not prescription, they provide her with some security as a result of her trauma.[4] Series artist abec told Dengeki Bunko Magazine that the glasses had been created as he felt there were not enough characters in the series with glasses.[5]

When she was two years old, her father died in a car accident.[6] Eight years later, while at a post office, an armed robber attempted to shoot a pregnant woman, but lost control of the gun after Shino bit his hand. Afterwards, she shot him three times, killing him.[7] Since, she developed a fear of guns, entering panic attacks whenever one is visible. As a result, she is bullied at school by her peers, with a finger gun being enough to trigger her phobia.[8] To help ease her trauma, her friend Kyōji Shinkawa convinced her to play Gun Gale Online.[9] Known as Sinon ingame, her main weapon is the «PGM Ultima Ratio Hecate II» sniper rifle, which she earned after defeating a monster in a dungeon.[10]

Shortly before the Bullet of Bullets (BoB) tournament, Sinon encounters Kirito, deciding to help him after believing he is female due to his avatar.[11] After Kirito’s true gender was revealed, an angered Sinon[12] attempts to leave him, but they meet again during the BoB.[13] The two are confronted by Death Gun, who causes Sinon’s PTSD to relapse when his weapon was revealed to be a Type 54 pistol, the same weapon she had used in the post office shooting.[14] She is rescued by Kirito and the two escape, though she is afraid to attack Death Gun.[15] With his help, Sinon overcomes her fear and the two defeat Death Gun.[16] Afterwards, the two end the tournament as co-winners after Sinon kills them both with a «Gift Grenade».[17] Upon exiting GGO, Shino is visited by Shinkawa, who congratulates her on winning the BoB. However, angry at Kirito, he attacks her with intentions of committing double suicide, and reveals himself to be one of Death Gun’s creators.[18] Shino manages to resist his attack and escape, but is stopped by Shinkawa before she could exit the house; Kirito arrives and fights Shinkawa, the latter eventually being knocked out by Shino throwing her stereo at him.[19]

After the Death Gun incident, Sinon seems to have gotten over her fear and is moving on from the incident, no longer vulnerable to her classmates’ threats of using a gun on her. In Agil’s café, Shino meets Asuna, Rika, and Sachie Osawa, a woman who had survived the post office incident, who convinces her that she had saved her and her daughter’s life.[20] Sinon eventually decides to play Alfheim Online with Kirito and his friends.

Sinon appears in the Sword Art Online video games. In Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment and Hollow Fragment, she is trapped in Sword Art Online[21] as a result of a glitch while testing a full-dive machine known as the Medicuboid.[22] In the sequel Sword Art Online: Lost Song, she becomes a playable character.[23]

[Sinon] is the first recurring female character in the anime side of the franchise who is not defined primarily by her connection to Kirito. Instead she is defined by an incident from her past which she cannot escape no matter how hard she tries, one which has inflicted her with the rough equivalent of PTSD. Her newest attempt to get over it is to use VR technology as a kind of therapy, a fascinating extension of the base technology which is also explored a bit in Aldnoah.Zero but from an entirely different angle. Ironically, the unreality of a game designed to give the feel of reality allows her to become the person she wants to be in real life: strong, independent, unafraid of guns, and capable […] She desperately wants to learn how to transfer that strength into her real-world self, and her quest to do so forms one of the core themes of the Phantom Bullet arc.

Richard Eisenbeis of Kotaku praised Sinon’s role in Sword Art Online II, describing her as «easily the deepest character to come out of Sword Art Online«.[25] Likewise, Carly Smith of The Escapist found Sinon to be a «breath of fresh air» in a show like Sword Art Online, which could have «ended after its first arc, halfway through the first season.»[26] In reviewing the second episode of the Sword Art Online II anime, Salvador GRodiles of Japanator.com wrote that «Sinon isn’t a pushover in battle» and is also «a force to be reckoned with»,[27] and found her character to be enjoyable.[28] In concluding his review of Sword Art Online II, Sinon’s character and story were praised again, writing «Overall, A-1 were able to wrap up Sword Art Online II’s Phantom Bullet nicely. We got to see Shino slowly recover from her trauma and the show did a decent job in explaining the process behind Shinkawa and his older brother’s evil scheme – even if their scheme had some far-fetched elements. To top it all off, they were able set things up for the next big storyline in the series.»[29]

GRodiles also praised the interactions between Sinon and Kirito after Kirito revealed to her his true gender, claiming «the series deserves some props for the way how they executed Kirito and Sinon’s recent interaction […] While most viewers might criticize SAO for having Sinon react negatively towards Kirito when he told her the truth, the guy kind of deserved it for not being honest with her when they first met. Thanks to this situation, we can see both characters develop in a way that won’t turn into a mindless sequence where Kazuto pretends to be a woman; thus destroying any distractions that would prevent the show’s plot from moving forward.»[30] In a review of the first Blu-ray disc of the Sword Art Online II anime, Theron Martin of Anime News Network praised Sinon as a «strong female co-lead», noting how unlike the other recurring female characters of the franchise, she is the only one not defined by her relationship with Kirito, but rather an incident from her past.[24]

Martin continued his review in part two, where he lauded the writing of Sinon’s backstory and sufferance of PTSD as «masterful», writing «The way she falls apart even in her Sinon persona when faced with a particular stressor is quite credible, as is the way she struggles to cope with her crushing fear; she is desperately afraid to die, but even more afraid of living with the fear […] [It] almost seems like a deliberate message is being sent to the audience, and the way she finally finds her resolve and fights back when her life is in serious jeopardy is heartening.» He also praised Michelle Ruff’s voice acting in the English dub.[31] Anime News Network’s Rebecca Silverman also praised Sinon’s portrayal, noting her to be «a much more interesting character» than both Kirito or Asuna, as «what makes Sinon a more successful character than any to previously appear in the main series is that she has more depth. Rather than being just a scared or traumatized character, she’s someone who is actively working to change herself […] it feels like this is a turning point for Kawahara’s writing skill. Sinon isn’t perfectly depicted, but she’s got more going on than previous characters.»[32] Sam of The Otaku’s Study similarly noted how Sinon already established herself as «one of the most developed Sword Art Online characters» despite appearing in only 7 episodes thus far, praising her backstory and contrast between her in-game and out-of-game personas.[33]

Popularity[edit]

Sinon is regarded as one of the most popular characters in Sword Art Online. A Charapedia poll which asked fans to list their favorite «cool» women in anime, had Sinon placed 13th with 203 votes.[34] She also placed 8th on another Charapedia poll of the «top 20 female anime/manga characters not to provoke.»[35] Sinon was awarded third in a Dengeki Bunko character poll for their light novels.[36] A third Charapedia poll asking respondents to rank their favourite «Short-Haired Anime Girls» ranked Sinon 16th, with 136 points.[37] In a poll by the app Otamart asking users to rank the anime characters they would want to give and receive chocolates from for Valentine’s Day, Sinon was ranked 14th and 16th, respectively among male voters.[38] Dorkly listed Kirito and Sinon beating the Death Gun tournament as one of the greatest moments in Sword Art Online.[39] In a poll to determine the characters who would appear on the cover of abec’s Sword Art Online art book, Sinon finished with the third-most votes.[40]

Anime website GoBoiano listed «Sharp Shooter Sinon» as one of the positive aspects of Sword Art Online II, noting her intelligence and strength, as well as Kirito not knowing her outside of gaming allowing the two to bond in a way different to the other girls in the franchise.[41] She also made a list of their «14 Anime Marksmen That You Can’t Hide From», where she ranked 14th,[42] as well as the «15 Anime Characters You Wish You Could Waifu», with author Aaron Magulick adding «Sinon is calm and cool, but she’ll snipe you right in the heart. Once you get past her cold exterior, you’ll find a loving person that’ll protect you from afar. Which works when you’re stuck in a gun-based mmo.»[43] A Newtype character poll had Sinon placed first in female characters, notably edging out fellow Sword Art Online character Asuna.[44] In a fan contest where respondents chose between 41 options for the next Sword Art Online figurine, Sinon placed fourth (Gun Gale Online version) and ninth (Alfheim Online version).[45]

The popularity of the character has resulted in several official Sword Art Online merchandise featuring her, for example as a 1/8th scale Sinon statue.[46] Sword Art Online girls (including Sinon) feature in a merchandise lottery by Bandai, where they are depicted in french maid clothing with cooking utensils, with Anime News Network humorously noting that they have «brought in a pretty penny for the franchise’s creators.»[47] There are also Kirito, Asuna, and Sinon Sword Art Online-branded perfumes for sale; «Sinon» is described as «a mature scene of marin citrus and herbs. It uses green apple, herbs and lime above muguet, rose, jasmine and cyclamen above musk and brandy.»[48] Replica Sinon glasses were created by Cospa and serve both as a cosplay prop and also as prescription glasses.[49] She also appeared in promotional advertisements for the video game Sword Art Online: Lost Song.[50] There are also 3D light-up LED models of Kirito, Asuna, Sinon, and Leafa.[51] A Sinon figurine was featured as a prize in a Banpresto Sword Art Online lottery in November 2014, along with other merchandise.[52] Additionally, Kirito and Sinon also appear in anime-themed Christmas cards by San Diego card creator and retailer Papercut Dragon.[53] A fanmade Grand Theft Auto V mod allows users to play as the character.[54] Three character songs based on Sinon have been released: «Solitary Bullet», «Blazing Bullet» and «Relief Bullet», all of which were sung by her Japanese voice actress Miyuki Sawashiro,[1][55] though «Blazing Bullet» was a duet featuring Kirito’s voice actor Yoshitsugu Matsuoka.[56]

Перед самой золотой пулей ей на глаза попадается неумелый новичок. На ее взгляд это была девушка, которая попала первый раз в игру и сразу же рвется на чемпионат. Она представилась ником Кирито и ей нужна помощь, которому Синон решает оказать. После удачного выигрыша в игровом автомате, где главной задачей было предсказать линию пулю, отклоняясь от выстрелов. Ее очень удивила потрясающая реакция девушки. После этого Кирито выбирает фотонный меч, который никто не пользуется. Объясняя выбор богатым опытом Фентези миров она соглашаться, Обучаясь навыком стрельбы и покупкой остального снаряжение, они отправляются на регистрацию.

Успев в последнею минуты летя на сложном в управление байке они успевают подать заявки. Вместо тем Синон узнает, что это парень и теперь ее задача стереть его в порошок. Ведь он видел ее в одном нижнем белье, ничего не сказав заранее. Такой вид аватара она видела впервые.

Достигнув глубины пещеры они натыкаются на дракона  из легенд о Беркули. Ее очень удивило масивный скелет и загадочный меч, который они едва могли сдвинуть все вместе.

Они с легкостью проходят отборочные,  и вскоре встречаются в финале. Кирито выглядит озадаченным и оскорбляет ее,  позволяя убить его. Она впадает в бешенство от такой выходке, ведь не такой бой рассчитывала. После и разговора они приходят к варианту сойти в ближней дуэли. Фотонный Меч против Гикаты, после выстрела побеждает Кирито. И выходит из группы с первого места.

Она не могла представить, что на золотой пуле столкнется с смертельной опасностью . Игрок-убийца Дезган, ради которого пришел ее новый друг. Теперь нацелился на ее жизнь, убив на ее глазах одного игрока. Благодаря поддержки Кирито она справляется со своим страхом и им удается добраться до пещеры. В которой он поведал ей всю свою историю. О заточение в сао и убийстве трех игроков в этой смертельной игре. Он такой убийца, как она сама.

Дезган

Решившись выйти на последнею схватку с оставшимися игроками, они выходят на бой. По плану Кирито встречал врага в лоб, а Синон прикрывала своей снайперской винтовкой. Ценой неимоверных усилий ей удается лишить врага своей снайперской винтовки, но при этом потеряв свой прицел. Кирито в тот же миг вступает в ближний бой на мечах с Дезганом. Сражаясь изо всех сил она решается помочь ему последней линией пули при помощи призрачного выстрела одолевают врага. Оставшись только вдвоем в этом мире покрытым порохом и кровью, она дарит ему граната. С улыбкой на лице они становиться победителями в борьбе не на жизнь, а на смерть.

Синон и Кедзи

Но в реальном мире еще не пропала опасность. Убийца мог еще находиться в ее доме, прямо возле ее кровати.  Но проверив дом, она открывает своему другу . Который пришел поздравить любимую подругу с победой Кёдзи .  Она узнает в нем одного из соучастников Дезгана. Едва успевший на выручку, Кирито вламывается в дом и чудом спасет. В порыве борьбы, он получает в свою грудь дозу сильного препарата . Но к счастью содержимое попала в электрод на его теле и он остается невредимым.

Кирито с радостью знакомит ее со своими подругами и через какое то время  она вливается в их компании vrmmo игрков. Также она рада, что Кирито не только спас ей жизнь, но и помог справиться с тяжелым грузом лежавший на ней многие годы.

Shino Asada (朝田 詩乃, Asada Shino) is a fictional character who appears in the Sword Art Online series of light novels and anime by Reki Kawahara. She is more commonly known by her avatar name, Sinon (シノン, Shinon), her player name in the Gun Gale Online and Alfheim Online video games that the series is set in. When she was eleven years old, Shino was involved in a post office robbery, where she killed the armed robber to defend her mother. As a result, she began to develop a fear of guns, deciding to play Gun Gale Online in hopes it would mend her trauma. The character has achieved popularity in anime and manga fandom, often appearing in fan polls and official merchandise, and has received positive critical reception, with acclaim directed at her appearance and depth of character.

Creation and conceptionEdit

In an interview with series creator Reki Kawahara, the author noted that the female characters in Sword Art Online were not based on anyone he knew personally, with him stating «I don’t usually make a character, setting, or anything before I start writing. As I write the story, the girls become what they are now. So, somehow, I don’t know exactly, but somehow, my subliminal idea or some hidden emotion creates the characters to be strong and capable.»[3]

In real life, Shino wears glasses containing an NXT polymer which could withstand a bullet; although they are not prescription, they provide her with some security as a result of her trauma.[4] Series artist abec told Dengeki Bunko Magazine that the glasses had been created as he felt there were not enough characters in the series with glasses.[5]

When she was two years old, her father died in a car accident.[6] Eight years later, while at a post office, an armed robber attempted to shoot a pregnant woman, but lost control of the gun after Shino bit his hand. Afterwards, she shot him three times, killing him.[7] Since, she developed a fear of guns, entering panic attacks whenever one is visible. As a result, she is bullied at school by her peers, with a finger gun being enough to trigger her phobia.[8] To help ease her trauma, her friend Kyōji Shinkawa convinced her to play Gun Gale Online.[9] Known as Sinon ingame, her main weapon is the «PGM Ultima Ratio Hecate II» sniper rifle, which she earned after defeating a monster in a dungeon.[10]

Shortly before the Bullet of Bullets (BoB) tournament, Sinon encounters Kirito, deciding to help him after believing he is female due to his avatar.[11] After Kirito’s true gender was revealed, an angered Sinon[12] attempts to leave him, but they meet again during the BoB.[13] The two are confronted by Death Gun, who causes Sinon’s PTSD to relapse when his weapon was revealed to be a Type 54 pistol, the same weapon she had used in the post office shooting.[14] She is rescued by Kirito and the two escape, though she is afraid to attack Death Gun.[15] With his help, Sinon overcomes her fear and the two defeat Death Gun.[16] Afterwards, the two end the tournament as co-winners after Sinon kills them both with a «Gift Grenade».[17] Upon exiting GGO, Shino is visited by Shinkawa, who congratulates her on winning the BoB. However, angry at Kirito, he attacks her with intentions of committing double suicide, and reveals himself to be one of Death Gun’s creators.[18] Shino manages to resist his attack and escape, but is stopped by Shinkawa before she could exit the house; Kirito arrives and fights Shinkawa, the latter eventually being knocked out by Shino throwing her stereo at him.[19]

After the Death Gun incident, Sinon seems to have gotten over her fear and is moving on from the incident, no longer vulnerable to her classmates’ threats of using a gun on her. In Agil’s café, Shino meets Asuna, Rika, and Sachie Osawa, a woman who had survived the post office incident, who convinces her that she had saved her and her daughter’s life.[20] Sinon eventually decides to play Alfheim Online with Kirito and his friends.

In other mediaEdit

Sinon appears in the Sword Art Online video games. In Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment and Hollow Fragment, she is trapped in Sword Art Online[21] as a result of a glitch while testing a full-dive machine known as the Medicuboid.[22] In the sequel Sword Art Online: Lost Song, she becomes a playable character.[23]

[Sinon] is the first recurring female character in the anime side of the franchise who is not defined primarily by her connection to Kirito. Instead she is defined by an incident from her past which she cannot escape no matter how hard she tries, one which has inflicted her with the rough equivalent of PTSD. Her newest attempt to get over it is to use VR technology as a kind of therapy, a fascinating extension of the base technology which is also explored a bit in Aldnoah.Zero but from an entirely different angle. Ironically, the unreality of a game designed to give the feel of reality allows her to become the person she wants to be in real life: strong, independent, unafraid of guns, and capable […] She desperately wants to learn how to transfer that strength into her real-world self, and her quest to do so forms one of the core themes of the Phantom Bullet arc.

Richard Eisenbeis of Kotaku praised Sinon’s role in Sword Art Online II, describing her as «easily the deepest character to come out of Sword Art Online«.[25] Likewise, Carly Smith of The Escapist found Sinon to be a «breath of fresh air» in a show like Sword Art Online, which could have «ended after its first arc, halfway through the first season.»[26] In reviewing the second episode of the Sword Art Online II anime, Salvador GRodiles of Japanator.com wrote that «Sinon isn’t a pushover in battle» and is also «a force to be reckoned with»,[27] and found her character to be enjoyable.[28] In concluding his review of Sword Art Online II, Sinon’s character and story were praised again, writing «Overall, A-1 were able to wrap up Sword Art Online II’s Phantom Bullet nicely. We got to see Shino slowly recover from her trauma and the show did a decent job in explaining the process behind Shinkawa and his older brother’s evil scheme – even if their scheme had some far-fetched elements. To top it all off, they were able set things up for the next big storyline in the series.»[29]

GRodiles also praised the interactions between Sinon and Kirito after Kirito revealed to her his true gender, claiming «the series deserves some props for the way how they executed Kirito and Sinon’s recent interaction […] While most viewers might criticize SAO for having Sinon react negatively towards Kirito when he told her the truth, the guy kind of deserved it for not being honest with her when they first met. Thanks to this situation, we can see both characters develop in a way that won’t turn into a mindless sequence where Kazuto pretends to be a woman; thus destroying any distractions that would prevent the show’s plot from moving forward.»[30] In a review of the first Blu-ray disc of the Sword Art Online II anime, Theron Martin of Anime News Network praised Sinon as a «strong female co-lead», noting how unlike the other recurring female characters of the franchise, she is the only one not defined by her relationship with Kirito, but rather an incident from her past.[24]

Martin continued his review in part two, where he lauded the writing of Sinon’s backstory and sufferance of PTSD as «masterful», writing «The way she falls apart even in her Sinon persona when faced with a particular stressor is quite credible, as is the way she struggles to cope with her crushing fear; she is desperately afraid to die, but even more afraid of living with the fear […] [It] almost seems like a deliberate message is being sent to the audience, and the way she finally finds her resolve and fights back when her life is in serious jeopardy is heartening.» He also praised Michelle Ruff’s voice acting in the English dub.[31] Anime News Network’s Rebecca Silverman also praised Sinon’s portrayal, noting her to be «a much more interesting character» than both Kirito or Asuna, as «what makes Sinon a more successful character than any to previously appear in the main series is that she has more depth. Rather than being just a scared or traumatized character, she’s someone who is actively working to change herself […] it feels like this is a turning point for Kawahara’s writing skill. Sinon isn’t perfectly depicted, but she’s got more going on than previous characters.»[32] Sam of The Otaku’s Study similarly noted how Sinon already established herself as «one of the most developed Sword Art Online characters» despite appearing in only 7 episodes thus far, praising her backstory and contrast between her in-game and out-of-game personas.[33]

PopularityEdit

Sinon is regarded as one of the most popular characters in Sword Art Online. A Charapedia poll which asked fans to list their favorite «cool» women in anime, had Sinon placed 13th with 203 votes.[34] She also placed 8th on another Charapedia poll of the «top 20 female anime/manga characters not to provoke.»[35] Sinon was awarded third in a Dengeki Bunko character poll for their light novels.[36] A third Charapedia poll asking respondents to rank their favourite «Short-Haired Anime Girls» ranked Sinon 16th, with 136 points.[37] In a poll by the app Otamart asking users to rank the anime characters they would want to give and receive chocolates from for Valentine’s Day, Sinon was ranked 14th and 16th, respectively among male voters.[38] Dorkly listed Kirito and Sinon beating the Death Gun tournament as one of the greatest moments in Sword Art Online.[39] In a poll to determine the characters who would appear on the cover of abec’s Sword Art Online art book, Sinon finished with the third-most votes.[40]

Anime website GoBoiano listed «Sharp Shooter Sinon» as one of the positive aspects of Sword Art Online II, noting her intelligence and strength, as well as Kirito not knowing her outside of gaming allowing the two to bond in a way different to the other girls in the franchise.[41] She also made a list of their «14 Anime Marksmen That You Can’t Hide From», where she ranked 14th,[42] as well as the «15 Anime Characters You Wish You Could Waifu», with author Aaron Magulick adding «Sinon is calm and cool, but she’ll snipe you right in the heart. Once you get past her cold exterior, you’ll find a loving person that’ll protect you from afar. The popularity of the character has resulted in several official Sword Art Online merchandise featuring her, for example as a 1/8th scale Sinon statue.[46] Sword Art Online girls (including Sinon) feature in a merchandise lottery by Bandai, where they are depicted in french maid clothing with cooking utensils, with Anime News Network humorously noting that they have «brought in a pretty penny for the franchise’s creators.»[47] There are also Kirito, Asuna, and Sinon Sword Art Online-branded perfumes for sale; «Sinon» is described as «a mature scene of marin citrus and herbs. It uses green apple, herbs and lime above muguet, rose, jasmine and cyclamen above musk and brandy.»[48] Replica Sinon glasses were created by Cospa and serve both as a cosplay prop and also as prescription glasses.[49] She also appeared in promotional advertisements for the video game Sword Art Online: Lost Song.[50] There are also 3D light-up LED models of Kirito, Asuna, Sinon, and Leafa.[51] A Sinon figurine was featured as a prize in a Banpresto Sword Art Online lottery in November 2014, along with other merchandise.[52] Additionally, Kirito and Sinon also appear in anime-themed Christmas cards by San Diego card creator and retailer Papercut Dragon.[53] A fanmade Grand Theft Auto V mod allows users to play as the character.[54] Three character songs based on Sinon have been released: «Solitary Bullet», «Blazing Bullet» and «Relief Bullet», all of which were sung by her Japanese voice actress Miyuki Sawashiro,[1][55] though «Blazing Bullet» was a duet featuring Kirito’s voice actor Yoshitsugu Matsuoka.[56]

В игре использует снайперскую винтовку «Геката» (Ultima Ratio Hecate II) и неодобрительно относится к мечу Кирито. Мало говорит, так как ей не нравится высокий голос её аватара. Хотела создать себе персонажа мужского пола, брутального и начисто лишённого обаяния. Тут же выяснилось, что пол персонажа, отличный от пола игрока, выбрать нельзя. Тогда она пожелала сгенерироваться высокой и мускулистой, однако генератор случайных чисел выдал ей маленькую, хрупкую и женственную фигуру, почти кукольную. Синон тут же решила удалить этот аккаунт и создать новый. Однако Кёдзи указал на то, что это расточительство, и продолжал настаивать на своём; Синон успела набрать немало уровней — и начинать заново было поздно.

В реальной жизни живёт в своей квартире одна и, не страдая плохим зрением, носит очки, так как в них чувствует себя в безопасности.
