The government of Nepal has rightly shifted the focus of its efforts from immediate relief to longer term recovery and reconstruction, but this must not come at the expense of families who still require life-saving assistance, backlogs of essential shelter materials continue at Kathmandu airport and the Indian border due to bureaucratic impediments. This is delaying aid reaching 100,000 families who require urgent shelter assistance as the monsoon season begins.
-
Michelle Tremillo:
We want to be clear on a key point about the Harvey Community Relief Fund, which is being housed within the Texas Organizing Project Education Fund: We have an ironclad commitment that 100 percent of the money raised into this fund will be spent directly on ensuring low income and people of color are not forgotten in the relief, recovery and reconstruction efforts. Not a dime will be spent on any other purpose, we and our allies intend to make sure that our communities are at the forefront of the recovery process, and that they get the resources they need to rebuild their lives. We will make a determination about which relief efforts in particular to dedicate this funding after the floods recede. Our expenditures will be dictated by the needs of our communities, and we anticipate those needs will range from personal hygiene items to legal aid and advocacy.

How to use «Reconstruction» in context?
After the devastation of the great earthquake that struck Japan on March 11, 2011, many people turned their attention to the process of reconstruction. The devastating earthquake released energy throughout the planet and had a ripple effect that is still being felt. The instantaneous destruction was compounded by the aftershock tsunami that followed.
Hours after the initial earthquake, teams of rescuers were methodically going through the wreckage, looking for anyone still alive. The aftershock tsunami destroyed everything in its path and killed more than 20,000 people.
The scope of the damage was daunting, and it would take many months to fully reconstruct the cities and towns.
